Don’t be like “some people” (post from Kirk Weisler)

Well then let’s not be like “some people”.  Instead let’s be like “those people”…. the ones who freely and naturally express their feelings about your value.  They appreciate you, like you, and aren’t waiting for a rainy day or an annual review to let you know.  They lift as they lead and seem to give others what they need.

That’s who and how I want to be…  ”I like you.”  or in everyday work speak…it might sound like… “I just want you to know that you are a big part of why I enjoy coming to work each day.”  or  “Working with you has been a blessing in my life… thanks for the smiles and spirit you bring to our team.”

Make it a great day…but making someone’s day and letting them know you like them.

Some “I Believes” (post from Kirk Weisler)

I believe- that we don’t have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I believe- that no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I believe- that you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

I believe- that it’s taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I believe- that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I believe- that you can keep going long after you can’t.

I believe- that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I believe- that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I believe- that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place.

I believe- that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I believe- that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I believe- that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

I believe- that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you’re down, will be the ones to help you get back up.

I believe- that sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel.

I believe- that just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

I believe- that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you’ve had and what you’ve learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you’ve celebrated.

I believe- that it isn’t always enough to be forgiven by others.  Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I believe- that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn’t stop for your grief.

I believe- that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I believe- that just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other And just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do.

I believe- that you shouldn’t be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

I believe- that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally . different.

I believe- that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don’t even know you.

I believe- that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you you will find the strength to help.

I believe- that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I believe- that the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.  (even if you get them for 90 years)

I believe it’s important to keep believing 🙂    Kirk Out

Counting – Things that do and things that don’t (post from Kirk Weisler)

Many of the things you can count, don’t count.  Many of the things you can’t count, really count.

~ Albert Einstein

At least one thing that counts is you and I and the spirit of contribution to the world.  It’s the “why” or the intent behind everything that we do.  We must not let the weakness of our nature overcome possibilities of our potential.  We must keep ourselves in a state of growth and of “becoming”. Let serving and lifting others be a significant part of the genuine intent that is behind all the things that we do.  Then those things that we do, may count for much much more.  ~  Kirk Weisler

Today is your day – Make It Count!

Preparation & Love

Never underestimate the value of preparation. The tenacious work you do will always pay off–sooner or later.

5-year old’s prayer:
Dear God,
I bet it’s very hard for you to love all of everybody in the whole world.
There are only 4 people in my family…….and I can never do it. 😉

Criticism and Being “the other people” (by Kirk Weisler)

“If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what’s said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference.” The Inner Life of Abraham Lincoln: Six Months at the White House by Francis B. Carpenter

I think the wisdom of this quote by Lincoln invites us all to spend less time worrying about what people may be saying and instead focus our energies and our integrity on simply seeking to do our very best.  In addition we might consider that, “seeking to do the best they can” is what most others are trying to do as well.  (Unless of course it is a political candidate who running against yours.)  :)

A loyal 12 year old subscriber sent me a couple of his favorite quotes recently… I enjoyed them and wanted to pass them along for all to enjoy.

“Some people learn from other people’s mistakes. The rest of us have to be the other people.” – anonymous Â

“The rain falls on the just and the unjust, but mostly on the just because the unjust steals the just’s umbrella.” – anonymous

So I guess it’s better to be the wet person who learns?~  Kirk Out

I want to be this kid….  No umbrella, no worries…

The Cake Has a Baby in it?? Purple, Green, and Gold Beads??

….Must be a King Cake!!

A favorite Mardi Gras tradition is the King Cake!  It comes in a number of styles.  The most simple, said to be the most traditional, is a ring of twisted bread similar to that used in brioche topped with icing or sugar, usually colored purple, green and gold (the traditional Mardi Gras colors) with food coloring.  They are traditionally deep-fat-fried as a doughnut would be, and there are many variants, some in more recent years featuring a filling – the most common being cream cheese, praline, cinnamon, or strawberry.  A so-called “Zulu King Cake” has chocolate icing with a coconut filing, because the krewe of Zulu parade’s most celebrated throw is a coconut.  And the special surprise in the cake is a small plastic baby!  You’ll have a lucky and prosperous year if you get the slice with the baby in it.  But all the luck comes with an obligation…you have to proved next year’s King Cake!!

While Mardi Gras means many things to many people, one item that is incorporated into almost every Mardi Gras celebration is beads of every size, shape, and color.

But how did this tradition come to be? And more importantly what do those beads stand for? The bead phenomena is a relatively new one considering that while the first Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans occurred in the 1830s, it wasn’t until the Rex parade threw inexpensive handmade glass necklaces sometime in the 1920s that the tradition was born.

Since that time the Mardi Gras bead industry has grown larger with each year and the cries of “throw me something, Mister!” that parade goers yell to catch the attention of the floats passing by gets louder along with more creative ideas to secure those precious trinkets.

However, many people don’t know that the traditional Mardi Gras bead color scheme: purple, green, and gold holds special meaning as well. The Purple, represents justice; the Green symbolizes faith; and the Gold exemplifies power. Though as the celebrations grow larger with each year that passes, beads and necklaces now come in every shape and color imaginable.
