Classic Quotes from legendary Lou Holtz

“It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.”

“You’ll never get ahead of anyone as long as you try to get even with him.”

“If you’re bored with life, if you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things, you don’t have enough goals.”

“Winners and losers aren’t born, they are the products of how they think”

“You’re never as good as everyone tells you when you win, and you’re never as bad as they say when you lose.”

“In this world you’re either growing or you’re dying so get in motion and grow.”

“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”

“You were not born a winner, and you were not born a loser. You are what you make yourself be. ”

”Never tell your problems to anyone…20% don’t care and the other 80% are glad you have them.”

”I never learn anything talking. I only learn things when I ask questions.”

… remember as a leader that being authentic isn’t just an important thing…it’s an essential one.

Don’t Put Off Living

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living.  We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon, instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.”–Dale Carnegie

When is the last time you stopped to smell the roses outside your window?

Make it a great day… and live.

Driving On, Looking Back and Having Fun (post by Kirk Weisler)

Driving through life you need a big windshield and a little rearview mirror.

You need a big windshield to see all the new, important stuff that is coming your way.

You only need a little rearview mirror because what’s behind you isn’t all that important. -Jim Yedinak

As you drive through your busy week, make sure you spend most of your time looking through the windshield at the possibilities that stretch out before you. It can, of course, be useful to occasionally check the rearview mirror to recall what is behind you; just don’t get too distracted or discouraged by the stuff that has already happened! Where you’ve been might determine your starting point, but it does not need to limit where you go from here. ~ Paul, the Ripples Guy

And always keep an extra steering wheel in the care just for fun!

Clarity, Confidence, Action!

“Life is too short to waste. Dreams are fulfilled only through action, not through endless planning to take action.”  ~ David J. Schwartz

To go in the direction of our dreams requires first that we have them… and then that we crystallize them into a form that we can articulate clearly, describe specifically, and work towards incrementally.   I remember the 4 step process described in a book about the great Walt Disney that suggested the pattern for his success… DREAM< BELIEVE< DARE< DO!  We must act!

And finally one of my wife’s favorite sayings… “Act the way you want to be and soon you’ll be the way you act.”    The word “Act” is not suggesting that we put one on…. as in “They really put on an act” in some insincere way to obtain some desired thing.  Rather it is in the context of making a choice to act a certain way driven by a sincere desire to become a certain thing.   The greater the clarity of purpose, the greater the confidence of it’s pursuit.   The greater the clarity of what we want to achieve and become… the greater the likelihood of our achieving it becomes.  ~ Kirk Out (www.kirkweisler.com)
