“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” – Henry David Thoreau
“To be nobody but myself, in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else – means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.” – E.E. Cummings
The picture above is Jason Hewlett a long time friend. Jason is a professional entertainer, impersonator. You can see many of his incredible and funny clips at his website http://jasonhewlett.com/ and on YouTube. I and my family have been to as many of his shows as we could get too. This morning I was reading an update by Jason on my Facebook wall…and it just inspired me. Jason talks candidly about his never-ending battle with his weight. I suggest this piece is not about weight…it’s about authenticity, courage, commitment…and the human spirit.
Jason is the consummate different drum dancer. And with regard to EE Cummings quote about fighting hard to be yourself…. Jason’s very interesting way of being himself is by being others. He’s a fascinating person, a devoted husband and father…and one of the most disciplined people I have ever encountered. The above link will take you to one of the most wonderfully candid and authentic pieces about a persons battle with the difficulties of personal weight gain. I think you will how he ends it…. I did. (Thank you Jason for sharing)
