“Only in an open space where we’re not all caught up in our own version of reality can we see and hear and feel who others really are, which allows us to be with them and communicate with them properly.” –Pema Chodron

One of my previous employers, teachers, leaders and exemplars said ….
“You cannot not communicate.” Then he would go on to explain… Everything you do is communicating a message to the world around you about who you are, about what is important to you, and about how ready you are or for the next opportunity. We must ask ourselves honestly…. “Is the story I am telling the world about me…. the one I really want them to hear?” Is it attractive? Is it inspiring? Is it a story that has a happy ending?
Make it a great day… make your life great, make your story great.
By the way… that leader was Art Coombs and he inspired me to change my story….many times.
“Silent expectations are the quickest way to destroy a relationship.” Seleh Stivers
I’ve always said, “One proven method to ensure personal frustration is to expect things from people without telling them.” (It works great on an organizational level as well.) It’s easier to be frustrated with your kids, your family or someone at work than it is to communicate with clarity, seek mutual understanding, and obtain commitment. That is why there is often more frustration than fruit in relationships.
