Some might read the above and think about jumping from a plane, learning a new language, starting a business or inventing a cure for cancer….and certainly any of those things might qualify as attempts at trying something remarkable.
But couldn’t attempting to withhold judgment of people different than us also qualify? How about being more patient or more quick to forgive. What about apologizing more quickly…or to someone who we know we have offended but don’t think it was really our fault? Perhaps we could attempt to go an entire day without being sarcastic or openly cynical….or without making a negative comment. Couldn’t it be remarkable to eat something totally healthy instead of entirely processed or to take a long walk during lunch instead of sitting at our desk contemplating our inboxes?
I don’t know what it is for you…. but I do know that attempting something remarkable…..even if we don’t accomplish it in full is has more potential to do more good than not trying to attempt anything.
So please join me in making the attempt.
This week I am in Wyoming training the staff members of two Dude Ranches the week before they take guests. Today with these wonderful cowboys and cowgirls I will try to do a few activities that I have not attempted to do in many years….and at least 1 new one.
