Innovate or Replicate (post by Kirk Weisler)

fully engaged

From the pages of a 2007 entry in my Leadership Learning Journal as well as a partial previous blog post from that same year….some learning from a conference session with leadership guru Mark Sanborn.

It doesn’t take any more time to be kind to someone than it does to be a jerk.

What does it mean to truly C.A.R.E. for a customer? Create A Rare Experience

Quality & Service get you into the game – relationships keep you in and help you to win.

Celebrity is based on what you get – Greatness is based on what you give.

Great Questions to Ask yourself might include.

Q. Did I waste any of the day I just finished?

Q. Was I fully engaged in each moment?

The 3 word question Innovate or Replicate?

Great question to ask someone you haven’t seen in a while. Q. What great idea has seized you since we last met!

You can re-invent yourself everyday! It’s never too late to become who you might have been.

Good stuff… my favorite asking , “What good idea has seized you since we last met?”

What’s your favorite?

Labor Day – Did You Know……

labor day 2An illustration of the first Labor Day parade, held on Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City. The holiday was organized by the Central Labor Union to exhibit “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations” of the community, and to host a festival for the workers and their families.

New York, New Jersey and Colorado were among the first states to approve state legal holidays. In response to support for a national holiday, Sen. James Henderson Kyle of South Dakota introduced a bill to make Labor Day a legal holiday on the first Monday of September each year. It was approved June 28, 1894.

Don’t Block The Exit

Dont-block-the-exit

I don’t believe in dying. It’s been done. I’m working on a new exit. Besides, I can’t die now, I’m booked. -George Burns

We do on stage things that are supposed to happen off. Which is a kind of integrity, if you look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else. -Tom Stoppard

Pure love and suspicion cannot dwell together: at the door where the latter enters, the former makes its exit. -Alexandre Dumas

Do You Hear What I Hear??

Sometime we take “hearing” for granted but we should take a step back and appreciate the birds that sing, the mosquito that buzzes in your ear, the sound of laughter, the sound of the me singing off-key (hehehe), the sound of just being able to hear.  I’m so thankful and so is this little sweet baby boy!

Hakuna Matata

I was watching this movie last night and didn’t realize how many songs I knew from this movie. I mean, really really knew the songs, high notes, low notes and the dramatic look I do when singing them.  My kids are now 17,14, & 12 which means I saw this movie years ago.

Now I am sharing this song with you to..

1. Get it stuck in your head (you are welcome)

2. To make you smile!

3. Because you will feel much happier for the rest of the day!!

Surround Yourself

“Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.” ― Edmund Lee

The Greatest Addiction – The Need to Be Right (post by Kirk Weisler)

need to be right

I was once told that the greatest addiction of mankind is not alcohol, drugs or of a sexual nature. That, in fact, the greatest addiction of mankind is the need to be right.   Now I don’t know if it is in fact true…. but I do know that this “need to be right” is at the heart of almost every mis-communication, every conflict and every poor culture.

Think about it this way… if a person says, “This place sucks.”  or “That person is a total jerk.” and they have this need to be right then what are they now looking for?    Exactly… proof that they are right.  They are now only focused on the negative and will interpret or mis-interpret every aspect of an organizations or individuals behavior to fit their claim. It’s said that people most often “Find what they are looking for.”

So we must ask ourselves “What are we looking for?”   If it’s “proof that we are right.”   Then we might ask ourselves “What is it that we want to be right about?”   What are we trying to prove?

Perhaps we can flip this addiction into a more positive and potential realizing position and make it a positive addiction by “Being Right about what is right in the world instead of what we think it wrong with it.

“I love my job.”  or “I love this about my work.”   and “I love this about this person.”   Looking for proof about what’s good is great.  And it’s an addiction that is much easier to live with.
