Trust is Essential for Everything To Thrive (post from Kirk Weisler)

trust

“The inability to open up to hope is what blocks trust, and blocked trust is the reason for blighted dreams.”  Elizabeth Gilbert

I love this quote by Elizabeth.  Blight is most commonly referenced to plants and is caused by a fungi that made the leaves spot and curl. The leaves of course are vital to the health of the plant.  When the leaves spot and curl it ultimately results in the plant growing sick and dying.

Building trust in the workplace is essential to building the culture of your dreams.  We would do well to stop looking for “dream jobs” and instead start creating them.

You never know… perhaps the ultimate dream job may be helping others create and realize theirs.  That is if they trust you enough to accept your help.

We don’t just need to trust our dreams…. we need trust just to have them.

Courage to Think and Do the Hard Stuff (post by Kirk Weisler)

courage 2

A friend once advised me saying, “Treat everyone you meet as if they were going through a major personal crisis – and most of the time you will be right.”

Each day people all around us are dealing with all that life has dealt to them.  I admire the courage and dignity of people who quietly live with such things… They seem to graciously and even enthusiastically accept whatever life sends their way.  I look at them… I learn from them… I am inspired by them.

Howard Cosell said,   “Courage takes many forms. There is physical courage, there is moral courage. Then there is a still higher type of courage–the courage to brave pain, to live with it, to never let others know of it and to still find joy in life; to wake up in the morning with an enthusiasm for the day ahead.”

Sometimes I let myself get tricked into thinking about the wrong stuff.  Not today… today I will have the courage to think about the right stuff, and to do the hard stuff.

10 Reasons Why We Need at Least 8 Hugs a Day

I sure did need one yesterday and now I know why.  Give a hug, get a hug.  Be Bless!!

snoopy hugging

Hugging therapy is definitely a powerful way of healing. Research shows that hugging (and also laughter) is extremely effective at healing sickness, disease, loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress.

Research shows a proper deep hug, where the hearts are pressing together, can benefit you in these ways:

  1. The nurturing touch of a hug builds trust and a sense of safety. This helps with open and honest communication.

  1. Hugs can instantly boost oxytocin levels, which heal feelings of loneliness, isolation, and anger.

  1. Holding a hug for an extended time lifts one’s serotonin levels, elevating mood and creating happiness.

  1. Hugs strengthen the immune system. The gentle pressure on the sternum and the emotional charge this creates activates the Solar Plexus Chakra. This stimulates the thymus gland, which regulates and balances the body’s production of white blood cells, which keep you healthy and disease free.

  1. Hugging boosts self-esteem. From the time we’re born our family’s touch shows us that we’re loved and special. The associations of self-worth and tactile sensations from our early years are still imbedded in our nervous system as adults. The cuddles we received from our Mom and Dad while growing up remain imprinted at a cellular level, and hugs remind us at a somatic level of that. Hugs, therefore, connect us to our ability to self love.

  1. Hugging relaxes muscles. Hugs release tension in the body. Hugs can take away pain; they soothe aches by increasing circulation into the soft tissues.

  1. Hugs balance out the nervous system. The galvanic skin response of someone receiving and giving a hug shows a change in skin conductance. The effect in moisture and electricity in the skin suggests a more balanced state in the nervous system – parasympathetic.

  1. Hugs teach us how to give and receive. There is equal value in receiving and being receptive to warmth, as to giving and sharing. Hugs educate us how love flows both ways.

  1. Hugs are so much like meditationand laughter. They teach us to let go and be present in the moment. They encourage us to flow with the energy of life. Hugs get you out of your circular thinking patterns and connect you with your heart and your feelings and your breath.

  1. The energy exchange between the people hugging is an investment in the relationship. It encourages empathy and understanding. And, it’s synergistic, which means the whole is more than the sum of its parts: 1 1 = 3 or more! This synergy is more likely to result in win-win outcomes.

There is a saying by Virginia Satir, a respected family therapist, “We need four hugs a day for survival. We need eight hugs a day for maintenance. We need twelve hugs a day for growth.” Eight or more might seem quite high, but while researching and writing this article I asked my child, “How many hugs a day do you like?” She said, “I’m not going to tell you how many I like, but it’s way more than eight.” That really made me smile and touched my heart. And, I realized how organic and deep the need for hugs is.

As a loving father, I get plenty of hugs from my little princess and her Mamma. And as a yoga therapist, I often give and receive them from my students at the end of a session. I find that love, is a miracle drug.

Child Returns Lost Wallet to Woman With Note

A California woman was moved last month after a child returned her lost wallet, along with an adorable note explaining why he did it.

“It was just this simple act of kindness that just warms my heart,” Taylor Sloan of Santa Rosa, California told ABC News. “I’m glad it’s getting attention. It obviously goes to show that he comes from a really great family.”

Sloan, 22, said it was on Jan. 30 when she lost her wallet at a motocross event in Oakland.

She said she was carrying her ID, debit card and about 30 to 40 dollars in cash.

“I had my wallet in the back of my pocket and probably just lost it when I sat down in my seat,” Sloan said. “I didn’t see it was lost until the event was over.”

Sloan canceled her debit card and made her way to a local DMV for a new license.

Then, she said, her mother called saying she had gotten a letter in the mail from a boy named Nasim, 10, along with Sloan’s missing wallet.

It read:

Dear Ms. Sloan,

My name is Nasim Lawrence and I am 10 years old. I found your wallet on the ground at the Super Motocross event in Oakland. I know how it feels to lose something and I wanted to make sure you got your wallet back. Hopefully, I have made you smile and you are happy to have your money and ID back. I am glad I found it instead of some bad person who would steal from you. You look like a very nice person who does nice things for people so I wanted to do something nice for you. Plus it’s the honest thing to do.

Sincerely,

Nasim

“I was ecstatic,” Sloan said of receiving the letter. “It was the sweetest thing. It was adorable.”

Sloan said she has written a letter back to Nasim and plans to send it, along with a $20 reward and a bag of candy.

She added that she’s been in touch with Nasim’s mother, after she shared the letter on Facebook.
