Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that you can’t do this or that.
That’s nonsense. Make up your mind, you’ll never use crutches or a stick, then have a go at everything. Go to school, join in all the games you can. Go anywhere you want to.
But never, never let them persuade you that things are too difficult or impossible. – Sir Douglas Bader was a British fighter pilot who lost both legs in a flying accident, but still fought in World War Two. He was knighted for his work with the disabled, and the quote above is from his talk to a 14-year-old boy who had lost a leg in a car accident. — Sir Douglas Bader (1910-1982) British Aviator
I really can’t speak for anyone except myself. (But I often make the mistake of trying) But for me…the person most often telling me I can’t do this or that isn’t someone else…it’s me. “I’m to old to do that, or to start doing it.” – or – “I would need to go back to school before I could do that.” – or – “I just don’t have the resources or connections to accomplish that …” Meanwhile all around me I see and am inspired by those who seem to have heard and responded to the words of Douglas Bader. They have left their limitations lying in a forgotten heap and our focused on creating the future they want and envision. They have made up their mind….and so must you and I!
Douglas Bader certainly get’s my stamp of approval… not that he needs it. He already earned his own.
